Tarey Bhir,Sikkim -Mother Nature’s wonders at her beautiful best

At a height of roughly 10,000 feet Tarey Bhil is a gorgeous cliff overlooking the lower reaches of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. You can see some of the prettiest landscapes here. Unfortunately this place has not been promoted much. Hence it is very much off the list of places to visit in Sikkim for most travelers.

Getting There

Gangtok to Namchi, where Tarey Bhir is located, can be easily accessed by road. However despite the relatively short distance of roughly 80 Kms, the roads not being in the best of shape, you might take anything upto 3 1/2 hours to get there. There are private cabs and government buses operating between Gangtok and Namchi. You can leave Gangtok after a late breakfast . This in turn will give you enough time to reach the view point and trek down the ridges and get back in time to view the spectacular sunset.

Things to remember

Remember to wear good trekking shoes, a jacket and a beanie to ensure comfort and safety during the trek. Additionally, since there are only a couple of ramshackle shops that sell basic stuff such as water bottles, biscuits and chocolate bars, it will be wise to prepare yourself by carrying enough food and water for the trip. The ideal time to travel would be between Sep-March.

Things to Do

The biggest attraction at Tarey Bhir is the view point. On a clear, cloudless day, you can clearly view Darjeeling and Kalimpong Hills . Additionally, you get to see the confluence of the rivers Teesta and Rangit. Indeed, the tranquility and serenity of the place needs to be experienced firsthand, as words cannot fully capture such a beautiful sight. From the view point, a narrow path leads down, with well constructed steps that guides you to various other view points.
